Some of my clients have this vision of a minimalistic lifestyle but the reality is living organized and clutter free is like pushing water up a hill when life happens, a busy household is experiencing one thing after another and their To Do List is competing against a daily grind of responsibilities. With some good planning & tweaking daily habits, it is achievable but please know living clutter free is a lifestyle change ~ it will take time.
Here’s some ways to streamline every day household tasks that might help you reclaim some of your time so you can start checking off that To Do List and living more clutter free!
- Meal Planning – is meal planning an endless cycle of last minute chaos in your household? If you answered yes, then aim to establish a visibly organized pantry and give that fridge & freezer a deep clean & tidy up. This effort will help to streamline your grocery shopping list, reduce waste, and plan timely weeknight dinners.
- Meal Preparation – count how many steps it takes you to pull together everything you need to prepare a simple tossed salad. If you determined more than 2 steps, then consider centralizing all of your meal preparation items to a given area in your kitchen ~ I guarantee that will be a time saver!
- Kitchen Counter Space – do you have limited counter space? This is a hot button for people ~ whether they have a postage sized kitchen or a massive one with a big island and endless floor to ceiling cabinetry, most say they have limited storage and counter space. Size doesn’t really matter if the space & storage are used efficiently where it counts. Take a hard look at where things are currently stored, have purpose, and flow through the cooking process then make some tweaks to drive more efficiency. If you can purge and “bless forward” to create storage, even better!
Okay so now you’ve re-organized the pantry & kitchen, cleared away the clutter and everything is in its place, the real challenge is maintaining it. As Mumsy used to say, “Rome wasn’t built in a day!” Everyone in the household needs some time to live & adjust to all of the changes, work together to tweak anything that isn’t working, and practice daily “tidy up” habits.
