My late mother truly inspired me ~ somehow she raised three daughters on her own. We lived on a shoestring budget, moved more times than I can possibly imagine, and wherever we landed, she always made a cozy home for us. Who knew that a simple cardboard box and a towel draped over it would make such a nice bedside table? She did!
For us kids, moving was a daunting task but for Mumsy, living with less meant a seamless experience. If only that was true in my adult life! Since moving to my present home nearly a decade ago, I’ve been downsizing our possessions to what we actively use ~ it is a work in progress. I recently read a quote by Organizing Moms, “Your home is a living space, not a storage space.” I couldn’t agree more! Since the garden is dormant, the winter season has me cleaning out closets where I can create some new shelving for guest room bedding and linens. I achieved a newly organized space and blessed forward a number of items we weren’t using ~ the end result is easier to manage. That’s the point ~ aim to use a storage space to help you live comfortably in your home.
I often hear people say that they don’t host friends or even family because their home is too cluttered and not set for entertaining ~ how sad is that?! Living with less stuff just takes some time and patience ~ before you know it, you’ll be sending out invitations to the new house warming you never had! Life is short my friend so my challenge to you in this brand new year is to embrace some little changes to your living spaces, just start and see where it leads you.
Need some help living with less? One of my favourite things to do during a consult is to simply walk around a living space and brainstorm some new ideas together…and it costs you nothing but time.
