I am in the process of clearing out a room from being a relaxing space for lounging into a home gym. Just with the furniture removed, it is already feeling open & airy. I’m also editing some furniture out of other rooms for easier traffic flow ~ it seems pointless to keep excess chairs, etc. if we are not using them so I’ve posted them on the VarageSale App and we press on!
Parting with excess furniture pieces means less cleaning! There will be less to dust and polish and it will be easier to vacuum the floors and get into corners and tight spaces where furniture had to be moved out. Now that’s a winning time saver!
The spring season has me resetting some of my living spaces so here’s some inspiration to get you to more open and airy in your home;
- Firstly, walk in and around each room to take note of things and stuff that are blocking traffic flow especially what is being stored on the floor that could become a trip hazard. Then list areas that are time consuming to clean. This effort will help you identify an action plan!
- That clean path forward doesn’t come easy without some heavy lifting. This means, it’s time to declutter what’s on the floor that you are not using or has a purpose in the household. Extra chairs, side tables, baskets full of magazines & books, book cases, other furniture storing more stuff, even plants. Read my blog post titled, Plant Therapy to learn more. Essentially, you are downsizing your stuff and it will feel soooo good! Just clearing one room will motivate you to keep going.
- Bless Forward ~ there are countless ways to support your local community. The Habitat ReStore is a wonderful place to shop and donate to especially larger household items like furniture ~ here’s a list of what you can donate to the ReStore. The Prancing Pony in Gibsons, Salvation Army, The Sunshine Community Community Services Society Thrift Store, even someone in need in your Church Family.
- Selling your Stuff – I am actively using the VarageSale App to part with my things so I can put that cash towards something that needs to be replaced or saving for a new project. Think about the time you have to invest in selling your stuff online and is the return worth it? Do your research and be aware of online scams – I prefer Cash Only transactions.
- Reinvent your living space – after parting with your stuff and a deep clean, now you can reimagine the space or just enjoy it as is. Tweaking furniture placement, shifting plants to more light filled rooms, hanging new artwork where a wall space was freed up – the possibilities are endless!
