My wardrobe and closet are getting a summer reset ~ if I’m not wearing it, it’s being plunged into a bag for either consignment or the local thrift store. Summer is a great time to edit your wardrobe when you can pull everything out and reorganize by season as well as clean and refresh dresser drawers, tidy hangers, wash walls, floors, and everything in between. I’m sure I’ve mentioned it in earlier posts but we have a household rule that when new clothing is purchased or acquired, two pieces that we are not wearing must be blessed forward. That effort has helped us immensely from accumulating too much clothing that is taking up much needed space.
Typically in July, we service our furnace and fireplace(s) which is also a good time to take a closer look at winter coats and warm clothing to see what needs to be replaced, washed, or aired out on the wash line. Mumsy use to say that the best time to source winter clothing at the thrift stores is during the summer season and we surely scored a few wonderful finds over the years!
A wardrobe reset also helps to determine what still fits or just doesn’t feel like me anymore. I have fallen in love with everything linen and I have a friend who works in a local thrift store who sources pretty much what I’m wearing these days. This means I’m becoming less attached to clothing that is not getting much mileage so it will be blessed forward to the local thrift store or even Gibsons, BC based Beyond Consignment ~ Emma is wonderful ~ you’ll find her on Facebook. I absolutely hate clothing shopping ~ I need either my sister or my husband to sort through styles, colours and fabric, and give me an honest opinion. Beyond Consignment has a wide range of clothing to choose from and since I’m bringing in a few items to sell, I can sometimes enjoy a little credit on my next purchase. It’s win win and that’s the point of a wardrobe reset! Make it work for you and for next to nothing ~ how wonderful is that?!
