Autumn has always been my favourite season.  By mid summer, I’m already thinking about things we need to get sorted around the house before winter and yes, I have another checklist to share!

Fall is time to clear out the clutter, put away seasonal decor, do some deep cleaning and maybe redefine your living spaces into something warm and comfortable before the weather turns.  I am presently working with a client to reset their kitchen ~ this is one busy household with a lot of traffic flowing through the dining room to the patio.  By simply rotating the kitchen table & chairs, we created easier flow through as well as additional entertaining space.  The client loves the change and is one example of things that I see coming into a home with fresh eyes.  A quick & easy tweak that can truly make a difference!

Here’s a start to my housekeeping checklist for fall;

  • Clean windows & sill debris.
  • Replace or add outdoor mats.
  • Clear clutter, shift furniture pieces and refresh decor.
  • Check & update home & vehicle emergency kits.
  • Check and recharge portable battery systems.
  • Check and replace weatherstripping around doors.
  • Polish wood & leather furniture ~ once the furnace is turned back on, this is a timely task!
  • Air out winter blankets, pillows & throws and pull out comfy decor to enjoy during the season.
  • Tidy & organize the garage while moving winter maintenance items to easy access places.
  • Refresh indoor plants ~ fall is a good time to repot, prune, divide, or even part with plants that no longer fit in a given room.
  • Schedule pre-winter maintenance service on the furnace and fireplace.  We tend to get this done mid to late July before the rush in the fall while taking advantage of available Fortis BC rebates.
